Our English Synopsis 1. Audio Culture (Editorial notes) We reagard the first issues of Hifi Magazin as trial balloons of the sort while the structure of our publication is slowly taking shape. The letters (readers) section is followed by articles on musical, technical and aesthetic subjects. Next to reviews of recordings we publish informative pieces namely forecasts, press digest and reports from all over the world as well as theoretical articles and tests. Finally we add modifications. 2. Soundservice Space for those desiring to inquire, needing advice, wishing to comment or argue or even to advertize. 3. Mithology Nostalgia goes further than mere objects. Aside from old recordplayers, amps, speakers, a perceptable halo surrounds old mono or even 78 recordings, together with the performing artists. The circle of myths is thus complete. Is there a realistic basis for such a development? Even the legend of Atlantis rings true insofar as an island once did submerged in the sea... 4. "Neoton-Séance" 5. Sceptical musing (on comprehensive recordings) "Beethoven's All...", "Mozart's All...". Is there any value in such all accompassing issues? Does it make any sense at all to record a composer's entire life's work? The point of view of aesthetics is against such undertaking. It seems that human snobbery and commercial reasons give rise to such series. (This piece was authored by the recently deceased well known aesthete András Pernye expressly for Hifi Magazin.) 6. Recording Sheet Reviews, criticism. 7. Page of Mirages No acceptable amps are manufactured in Hungary, however, there is hope. Smaller producers could enter the audio industry. Hungarian engineers, not afficiated with industrial enterprices, could create the blueprint for inexpensive, functionally simplified versions of electronics that compare with the High End of audio equipment. We already possess information of such a phono preamp. 8. Düssoldorf '80 Report on the Hi-Fi show. 9. HiFi-design 10. From Martin Colloms' Workshop Our reporter wanted to scrutinise amplifiers available in the British market. Visiting the greatly respected Hi-Fi expert and author Martin Colloms turned out to be the greater event. They talked about objective and subjective judgements of Hi-Fi equipments; our reporter even participated in a "Seance". 11. The Yellow Brick Road A digest of six recognized audio publications. 12. Which of the Four Our Playmate of the Month, a Pioneer CT-F1250 cassette deck provides us with the opportunity to demonstrate both with instrumental testing and listening, the differences among four widely used cassette tapes (Fe, CrO2, Fe-Cr, Metal). We also provide a comparison of this luxury deck with other, cheaper models - available in Hungary - as well as with our basic stock the Revox reel-to-reel. 13. Ortofony Our most expensive test up to date: 16 Ortofon pickups with 4 step-up units. The tests are heightened in importance because 2 Ortofons are available in Hungarian stores: the cheapest FF15E/II. and the middle range, widely accepted VMS 20E/II. 14. Presenting Novelties on the Hungarian market in this issue: Hitachi HT-324 recordplayer as well as various types of 2 x 20 W amp and tuner, both made in Poland. 15. MOD: The Supersupraphon Modifications on the most popular Tesla NC 440 recordplayer. 16. Between Takes (From our upcoming issue) After all those pickups it is time to treat the meeting place of the pickup and phono preamp: this "interface" is of great importance. We will publish a test on the first Hungarian Hi-Fi Tower (Orion). Searching for cheap (hence possibly importable), relatively good quality speaker kits we are examining the KEF B1 10/T27 as well as the Audax BEX 40 combinations. Candidates for testing of tapes: 6 Agfa, 4 Maxell, 2-2 TDK and BASF, 1 Akai. We will present our collection of demo records used for qualifying Hi-Fi gear. Finally an essay about the soundman's dilemmas.
